FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS
In the past we were encouraged to discipline ourselves to spend time on developing our weaknesses into strengths. But various studies have shown that when we focus on developing our strengths we grow faster than when trying to improve our weaknesses. The best example I know of this, is Dr. Ben Carson when he was attending medical school. He found it difficult to stay in class and listen to the lectures. Ben found that, that wasn’t the way he learned best. It wasn’t his strong suit. He did better by just studying the text books and lecture notes on his own and and preparing himself for the exams. I remember hearing in a documentary that he missed most of his classes. Furthermore he managed to become the top pediatric neurosurgeon in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson#Medical_school
DON’T WASTE TIME STRENGTHENING WEAKNESSES
Dr. Carson didn’t need to attend classes. In an example of a project we often have to fulfill a skill that we are weak in. My recommendation is to not waste time and energy trying to get better at your weaknesses. Instead, use other people that have higher skill and more competency in these areas. Spend time developing your strengths and ask someone else to fill in the gaps where you are weak. Be deliberate in finding individuals that can help you in these areas. As I mentioned in a previous video blog, this works great for procrastination as well. https://www.lifecoachhelps.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=76&action=edit
USE OTHER PEOPLE’S STRENGTHS
I lean on people that have a higher level ability in certain strengths/traits than me. They help me in areas of my life that I am weak in.
I find that people in my circle appreciate helping me as long as I give back something to them. It may be monetary or it also may be a trade of skill. As long as we respect each other and there is clear communication about the trading, this can prosper both parties.
While I am not strong in social media marketing, I have relationship with someone that is. She helps me immensely. This releases me to focus on my strengths in areas like speaking, writing and face-face networking.
